The General Administration of Customs released the "National Export Volume and Value Table of Key Commodities for July 2025." By analyzing the export data for the first seven months, we found that China's home furnishings exports showed remarkable resilience, yet performance varied significantly across different categories. Specifically, the cumulative export value of furniture and its parts reached 271.49 billion yuan in the first seven months of 2025, but saw a year-on-year decline of 4.5%. In July particularly, the export value was 35.05 billion yuan, with a more pronounced drop compared to other months. This highlights that home furnishing categories which traditionally held an export advantage are now facing severe challenges stemming from changes in foreign demand.
Looking at the different categories, household appliances maintained steady growth, with a cumulative export volume of 2,589.617 million units in the first seven months, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. The export value was 411.99 billion yuan, a slight increase of 0.7% year-on-year. Notably, the export volume for July was 376.10 million units, with an export value reaching 59.55 billion yuan.
Ceramic products continued their robust growth momentum, with a cumulative export volume of 10.933 million tons and an export value of 93.0 billion yuan from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%, making them a bright spot in the home furnishings industrial chain. However, the export of logs and sawn timber, which is closely linked to home furnishing manufacturing, showed a continuous downward trend. The cumulative export volume for the first seven months was 33.479 million cubic meters, a year-on-year decrease of 12%, and the export value was 48.67 billion yuan, a decrease of 15%. The export volume for July was 4.653 million cubic meters, with an export value of 6.92 billion yuan.
Industry experts point out that China's home furnishings export sector is currently transitioning from scale expansion to quality improvement and efficiency enhancement. Categories like ceramics and home appliances have become growth highlights due to their unique advantages, while traditional high-volume export categories such as furniture are facing considerable pressure. To stabilize overall market share, these traditional categories need to accelerate design innovation, promote brand internationalization, and implement sustainable manufacturing transformations. In the future, the core competitiveness of enterprises will not only depend on production capacity and cost control but also on their ability to quickly respond to global trends in green consumption and high-end customization demands.
